Brian Rymer is Managing Director of IMM Hydraulics Limited, the UK operation of IMM Hydraulics SpA, based in Halesowen, West Midlands. The company buys in parts from Italy for both the internal manufacture of hydraulic hose assemblies tailored to customer requirements and for external distribution to clients.
When Mr Rymer started the company 15 years ago, he found that the then accountant was not knowledgeable enough to provide the service required, so he transferred to Nicklin around 12 years ago. In that time, he has developed a “wonderful relationship” with managing partner Harvey Owen, whom he now classes as a friend.
In addition to dealing with the preparation of their accounts, audit and the necessary tax work, Nicklin provides Mr Rymer with “fabulous and very constructive” business and personal advice, most of which is free. This includes guidance on areas such as tax planning, pensions and investments.
“I have a very, very good relationship with Harvey, who is one of the most relaxed accountants I have ever known,” says Mr Rymer. “He is a very nice man, who puts you at ease as he explains everything clearly. I can ring him anytime, and get an instant answer.
“Nicklin sends out a wonderful newsletter every month, and three or four booklets about subjects such as the budget, all of which are free.
“We have to watch what we are doing – if we are not sure of the regulations, we could be in trouble. Nicklin automatically emails me to let me know of any changes, which is fabulous.”
Mr Rymer would definitely recommend Nicklin, as they are the “friendliest, most open, easily understood accountants” he has worked with.
“They really do talk our language, and we certainly won’t change accountancy firm as long as I am here.”
